Trinamool Congress lawmaker Mahua Moitra, under investigation by the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha for the 'cash-for-query' issue, has made a sharp comment about the committee. The committee was set to review a report on her actions, but the meeting has been postponed.
Originally planned for November 7, the Ethics Committee meeting, led by BJP's Vinod Kumar Sonkar, is now rescheduled for November 9. The meeting's goal is to look at and possibly approve a report regarding Mahua Moitra's conduct.
The inquiry into Mahua Moitra concerns accusations of her accepting money in exchange for raising questions in the Lok Sabha related to businessman Gautam Adani.
The official schedule of the Lok Sabha mentions an examination of a complaint against Mahua Moitra, filed by fellow MP Nishikant Dubey on October 15, 2023. The complaint alleges Moitra's direct involvement in a 'cash-for-query' arrangement in Parliament and calls for an investigation into her alleged unethical behavior.
Mahua Moitra voiced her concerns via a tweet, expressing skepticism about the process. She mentioned that no draft report was shared beforehand, which is the usual practice. She also highlighted that the new meeting date coincides with another MP's nomination day, implying this was done intentionally so the MP would be unable to attend. Furthermore, she claimed the BJP is rallying its allies to ensure enough members are present to approve the report through a majority vote. She also mentioned extraordinary efforts, like arranging a chartered flight for an MP, suggesting that this shows how worried Adani and Modi are.
