Srimanta Sankardev Socio-Cultural Charitable Trust of Navi Mumbai Organizes Insightful Webinar on the Life of Srimanta Sankaradeva

Srimanta Sankardev Socio-Cultural Charitable Trust, Karjat of Navi Mumbai hosted a thought-provoking webinar on 7th January, shedding light on the life and contributions of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva, the great medieval polymath. The event aimed to provide valuable insights into Sankaradeva's life and work for the benefit of the new generation and parents in the contemporary context.

The two-hour webinar commenced with opening remarks by Dr Jayanta Kumar Bora, Joint Secretary of the Trust, who eloquently outlined the objectives and significance of such webinars in the present era. Mrs Rupanjali Barua, the founding President of the Trust, shared the history of the organization and highlighted the various socio-cultural activities undertaken by the society since its inception. Mrs Chinmoyee Das, Secretary of the Trust, extended warm welcome to the distinguished speaker, Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, an accomplished researcher of medieval Assamese literature.

Dr Borkakoti, known for his research-based biography of Srimanta Sankaradeva in both English and Assamese, captivated the audience with a profound exploration of the great polymath's life and works. He elucidated the principles underlying the activities of Srimanta Sankaradeva, especially his liberalism. He showed how the polymath promoted peace and harmony in a tumultuous time. He termed the saint as founder of feminism. He illustrated with examples that the impact of the saint’s works was not confined to Brahmaputra valley alone, but extended to rest of India too. Participants had the opportunity to engage with Dr Borkakoti during a lively Q&A session. Dilip Changkakoty, Debasish Mahanta and Dalim Phukan took special part in discussion.

Devasish Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Morigaon District, Assam, and resident commissioner of Assam Bhawan, Mumbai, expressed his support for such initiatives and urged the continuation of similar events in the future. The concluding remarks were delivered by Mr Trailokya Hazarika, a member of the Trust, expressing gratitude to Dr Borkakoti for his insightful contributions.

Dr Jayanta Kumar Bora, in his vote of thanks, emphasized the commitment of the Trust to organize more webinars in the coming days, fostering cultural and intellectual enrichment.
