Assam Plans to Create 335 MW Green Energy by 2026 Through Solar Projects

I Assam

In Assam, the government is focusing on solar energy to produce 335 MW of green energy by 2026. This effort is to address the electricity shortfall in the state. Assam aims to generate almost half of its total electricity demand through solar projects. Several major solar projects are underway, including the Sonbeel Floating Solar Power Project and the Golaghat Ground-Mounted & Floating Solar Power Project. Others like the Namrup, Batadrava, and Tezpur Agri-Voltaic Power Projects are also part of this plan.

These projects will use land for both solar power generation and agriculture. Once these projects are completed, Assam hopes to produce a significant portion of its electricity needs, reducing its reliance on power purchases from outside. This shift to solar power is also aimed at reducing the environmental impact compared to thermal power plants. Currently, Assam's power demand is around 2200 MW, but the state can only generate about 250 MW on its own, making these solar initiatives crucial for its energy needs.
