Shubman Gill Breaks Record: The Fastest to 2,000 ODI Runs
In an exhilarating display of cricket, Indian opener Shubman Gill has written his name in the record books. On October 22, during the World Cup match against New Zealand, Gill surpassed the record previously held by South African batsman Hashim Amla, becoming the quickest to score 2,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
A prodigious talent, Gill reached this milestone in just 38 innings, shaving two innings off Amla’s record. Amla, a modern-day legend for South Africa, took 40 innings to achieve this feat. In the match held in Dharamsala, Gill's batting prowess gave India a solid start in their chase against New Zealand's target of 273 runs.
Only 24 years old, Shubman Gill has shown remarkable consistency and maturity since his ODI debut for India in 2019. Over the course of his burgeoning career, he has already graced the field with six impressive centuries and 10 half-centuries in a total of 37 ODI appearances.
Gill’s achievement not only underscores his potential as one of the brightest future stars for Indian cricket but also exemplifies the depth of young talent emerging from the country. His ability to swiftly adapt and perform on the international stage highlights the promise he brings to the table, and fans can look forward to many more match-winning performances from this young maestro.
