Dispur, November 18: The corridors of power in Assam's capital city, Dispur, are abuzz with anticipation as a significant bureaucratic reshuffle is on the horizon. In a series of official orders, the Department of Personnel-A, Government of Assam, has unveiled key appointments and changes that are set to reshape the administrative landscape of the state.

In a noteworthy development, Mr. Niraj Verma, IAS (RR1994), who held the position of Additional Chief Secretary in the Government of Assam and served as the Chairman of both APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Limited) and APGCL (Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited), has been placed at the disposal of the Government of India. He is slated for an appointment as the Administrator of the Universal Service Obligation Fund within the Department of Telecommunications. This move signifies a significant shift in Mr. Verma's responsibilities and places him in a key role at the national level. His release from the state government is effective from the date of handing over charge.

In another pivotal appointment, Dr. Krishna Kumar Dwivedi, IAS, who is returning from a central government assignment, has been posted as the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, serving in the Personnel and Power (E) department. His tenure commences with the date of taking over charge, and this appointment reflects the state government's commitment to experienced leadership in key departments.

Additionally, in a move aimed at streamlining administrative responsibilities, Rakesh Kumar, IAS (RR 2005), who previously held the position of Managing Director at APDCL and served as the Commissioner & Secretary for both the Fishery and Excise departments, has been appointed as the Commissioner & Secretary in the Power (E) department. He will also shoulder the additional responsibilities of Chairman at APDCL and APGCL until Dr. KK Dwivedi assumes charge in the role of Chairman at APDCL.

It's worth noting that the administrative landscape in Dispur has faced unique challenges, with several senior IAS officers being on deputation abroad, leaving others to shoulder multiple departmental responsibilities. This situation has prompted a demand for a comprehensive bureaucratic reshuffle to streamline administrative efficiency and ensure the smooth functioning of key departments.

Sources within Dispur suggest that this major bureaucratic reshuffle is expected to take place in the last week of this month, heralding significant changes and realignments in the state's administrative apparatus. The outcome of these impending changes will likely have far-reaching implications for governance and public administration in Assam.
