Guwahati, November 5, 2023 South Kamrup College witnessed a significant event as the Regional News Unit of Akashvani Guwahati held a Youth Outreach Programme aimed at bolstering the popularity of radio among young listeners. The program took place in the college's conference hall, in association with the Center for Media Studies.
Distinguished guests like Dr. Nabajyoti Das, the college principal; Nayan Prasad and Utpal Dutta, both former Akashvani officials and esteemed figures in film criticism; as well as Manas Pratim Sarma, the Head of the Regional News Division, were in attendance.
The welcome address by Sarma set the tone for the event, outlining the value and objectives of Akashvani's news and programs. Dr. Das lauded the initiative, encouraging students to engage with Akashvani’s offerings. Nayan Prasad reflected on his three-decade-long tenure at Akashvani and the discipline it instills. Utpal Dutta discussed the enduring trust and relevance of radio amidst modern technological advancements, advocating for student participation in Akashvani’s youth-oriented programs.
The event also featured a career seminar, moderated by Arunima Goswami, which saw the participation of dignitaries such as IPS Officer Padmanabha Barua and Dr. Ankita Dutta, a member of the State Youth Commission. Barua emphasized the significance of early career planning and self-awareness among students, while Dr. Dutta illuminated the growing field of journalism and the myriad opportunities it presents in public relations, advertising, and film media.
To culminate the event, a quiz competition conducted by Nayan Prasad and Utpal Dutta took place, with winners receiving radios as prizes. This initiative by Akashvani Guwahati underscores the importance of connecting with the youth and fostering their growth through educational and career-oriented discussions.
