District Jal Seva Awards were presented to Jalmitra and others who have shown excellence in implementation of Jal Jeevan Abhiyan scheme at grassroots level at Pabitora Hat Hall, Morigaon today. Speaking at the function organized on the occasion, Morigaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma said that Jalmitras are fighters of the country. "It is our duty to respect them," he said, adding that every water friend must play the role of the fighters in the society . This means that the success of the scheme will depend on these water heroes working at the grassroots level under the Jal Jeevan Abhiyan. He urged the watermen to treat people kindly. He said the responsibility of ensuring piped water for every household has been placed on the shoulders of Jalmitra and grassroots workers. He urged everyone to fulfill this responsibility with sincerety. "We have to work as a team," he said. “We can only succeed if everyone in the team works well,” he said. He said it was a proud day for the people of Morigaon district that the foundation stone of the Assam Sahitya Sabha session was laid at Barapujia. He congratulated the Jalmitra and other workers who were awarded on the same day.
The awards are given monthly to encourage people working at the grassroots level under the Jal Jeevan Abhiyan. He highlighted some technical aspects to be kept in mind when working especially at the grassroots level. The meeting awarded 3 Jalmitra, Jaldut and Best Well Managed FHTC beneficiaries, 3 Water User Committees, Gaon Panchayats, Schools, Self Help Groups, Anganwadi Centers and Women Groups in 9 categories for the months of September, October and November Water Service Awards .The meeting was attended by Additional District Commissioner Dr. Sangita Barthakur, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Morigaon Zila Parishad Moinuddin Ahmed, a number of dignitaries, Jalmitras, self-help groups serving under Jal Jeevan Abhiyan and officers and employees of Public Health Engineering Department.
