National Milk Day was celebrated in Guwahati, Assam, to remember Verghese Kurien, known as the "Milkman of India." It was organized by the Indian government's Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department along with Assam's government and other dairy groups.

The main guest, Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, talked about recent improvements in Assam's animal husbandry and dairy fields. He mentioned mobile vans for veterinary services across Assam as a big step forward. The minister also said that since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, there's been more growth and funding in these sectors. He praised Modi's work in animal and human health during COVID-19, including a big Rs 13,000 crore livestock vaccination campaign.

Assam's Agriculture Minister Atul Bora thanked the Union Minister for celebrating National Milk Day in Assam. Bora said Assam makes 29 lakh litres of milk and plans to increase this by 10 lakh litres. He talked about a Rs 2,000 crore deal with the National Dairy Development Board to boost milk production.

Bora also mentioned efforts to increase livestock numbers and milk production, including artificial insemination and setting up new dairy farms. He noted that most of Assam's dairy sector is not organized, and money has been given to help dairy cooperative societies and farmers.

During the event, nine top dairy farmers were honored, and many livestock farmers and officials attended, including Fisheries Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya and several MPs.
