Guwahati: Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Ayush Minister, recently inaugurated a new 50-bed Ayurvedic hospital in Dudhnoi, located in Assam's Goalpara district. This is the second Ayurvedic hospital opened in Assam within a month, after another one in Majuli.
The new facility is well-equipped with a modern lab, a Panchakarma therapy center, a clinic for infertility treatment, a yoga section, and outpatient and inpatient services.
At the opening ceremony, Sonowal shared that in the last six months, 78,026 patients have been treated with Ayurvedic methods in 289 wellness centers across the state.
He highlighted that the Ayush Ministry has invested Rs 121.75 crore in Assam for establishing wellness centers, hospitals, educational institutions, and public health initiatives under Ayush.
Sonowal is optimistic that programs focusing on care for the elderly using Ayush methods will enhance healthcare in the northeast. He announced plans to expand the Dudhnoi facility into a key Ayush hub, adding an ultrasound and X-ray unit, an operation theater, advanced Panchakarma, a better lab, and a maternity room.
There's also an Ayush educational institute being built on the same campus, and a garden of medicinal plants is planned.
The minister mentioned ongoing work to introduce 200 more wellness centers, eight Ayush hospitals, and educational institutions in Assam.
Sonowal is pleased that locals now have access to Ayurveda and stressed the importance of advanced healthcare in the Northeast for India's economic growth.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to integrating traditional medicine like Ayurveda with modern healthcare, aligning with Prime Minister Modi's vision for a healthy India. With the rising number of people choosing Ayurvedic treatments, the aim is to create a healthcare system that helps people get better and enhances their life quality.
The inauguration was attended by Assam's Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, Guwahati's MP Queen Oja, CEM of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Tankeswar Rabha, and officials from the Ayush Ministry, Assam government, and Goalpara district.
