Ban on Traditional Buffalo fight lifted by the Cabinet of Assam Government Yesterday

The Assam government officially lifted the ban on traditional buffalo fight which is generally organised by the farmers and buffalo keepers during the Magh Bihu season. The traditional buffalo fight is an itam of all ethnic communities of Assam during the main harvesting festival that is Magh Bihu .However .this buffalo foght and Jalli Kotto of Tamil Nadu were banned by the Supreme Court in the year 2017 terming it a cruelty to animal event ..During the Covid period the buffalo fight festival were completely banned. The Supreme Court. also issued relaxation order on Jalli Kottoo (bull fight). As such, the Assam government also in its last cabinet lift ban on buffalo fight resulting in  much joy and happiness among the farmers and buffalo keepers.
