Assam Chief Minister Presents Scooters to Meritorious Students Under Pragyan Bharati Scheme

November 30: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially presented scooters to meritorious students as part of the Pragyan Bharati Scheme during an event held at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara on November 30, 2023. The scheme, instituted in memory of renowned litterateur and linguist Dr. Banikanta Kakati, aims to empower youth through education.

Under the scheme, girls who scored 60% and boys who scored 75% in the Higher Secondary Examinations in 2023 received scooters as recognition for their academic achievements. This year marks the sixth year of the award, with a total of 35,770 students receiving scooters in 2023.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma emphasized the government's commitment to empowering youth through education. He expressed hope that the scooters would motivate students to continue excelling in their studies.

Dr. Sarma also paid tribute to Dr. Banikanta Kakati, highlighting his significant contributions to literature, linguistics, and cultural anthropology. He encouraged students to stay focused on their goals and strive for excellence.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to providing support to the student community, announcing plans to expand the Pragyan Bharati scheme to include free scooters, textbooks, and subsidized hostel fees. The scheme, initially launched in 2017, was extended to include male students who secured 75% and above marks from the year 2022-2023.

Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education Biswaranjan Samal delivered the welcome address at the event, which was also attended by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, MLA Paramananda Rajbongshi, and other dignitaries.
