In Sivasagar, a Case of African Swine Fever in Pigs Leads to Serious Measures

I

In Sivasagar, a place in Assam, there's a bit of concern because of a sickness called African Swine Fever (ASF) found in pigs. This sickness was found in pigs at a farm owned by someone named Raja Dutta, who lives in a village called Dicial. Because of this, the village of Dicial is now being called the 'epicentre', which means it's the main place where this disease is happening.

African Swine Fever is a type of illness that affects pigs. It's important to know that this sickness doesn't affect humans, but it's a big worry for pigs. When pigs get this disease, they can become very sick, and it can even lead to their death. This is why the news about ASF in Dicial village is being taken very seriously.

The department in charge of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, which looks after animal health in Sivasagar, has decided to take strong steps to stop this disease from spreading. They have set up a special area around Raja Dutta's farm, which covers a 1-kilometer radius. This area is called the 'infected zone'. This means that inside this area, the disease has been found and they need to be very careful.

But that's not all. The department has also set up a 'surveillance zone' which is even bigger. This covers the villages that are within a 10-kilometer radius of the farm. In these areas, they are keeping a close watch to see if the disease spreads.

To make sure the disease doesn't go to other places, there are now rules about moving pigs. They have stopped the transportation of live pigs from the area where the disease is found. They have also said that people can't sell pigs, pork (which is meat from pigs), pig food, and things related to pigs in this area.

Since this is a serious situation, the people who look after animal health in Sivasagar are getting ready to do something called 'culling'. This means they might have to humanely remove some pigs in the affected area to stop the disease from spreading. This is a tough decision, but it's done to keep the disease from affecting more pigs and to protect the health of the pigs in the larger area.

This whole situation in Sivasagar, especially in Dicial village, shows how important it is to look after the health of animals like pigs. It's a reminder that when diseases like African Swine Fever are found, quick and careful actions need to be taken to protect the animals and stop the disease from spreading further.
