T Morigaon
The 18th State Conference of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) commenced in Morigaon, Assam, on November 21st with great enthusiasm. The event began with the inauguration of the main gateway to Lakhminath Bezboruah Khetra by Jursing Bordoloi, President of Tiwa Rajdarbar. In his opening speech, Bordoloi urged the AASU leadership to strengthen the century-old unity and brotherhood among all indigenous ethnic groups of Assam and the Northeast region.
The main pandal, dedicated to the names of Swahid Putul Saikia and Gajen Engti, was inaugurated by Dr. Leela Kanta Borthakur, Principal of Morigaon College. The Pradip Saikia Memorial Book Fair, organized as part of the event, was inaugurated by Dr. Kamal Chandra Nath, Principal of Charaibahi College.
A notable feature of the conference was the Charaghar (Guest House) constructed in the style of Patekibori Satra, which was inaugurated by renowned educationist Punaram Nath. The event also featured a traditional food fair and a trade fair held in the field.
The delegates' camp was officially opened by Harendra Bora, former MLA of Morigaon. The conference is expected to host several thousand delegates from across the state, culminating in the formation of a new executive committee for AASU on the last day, November 23rd.
