Demow Police Seize Ganja Worth Rs 14 Lakh in a Car on NH-37

In a significant operation, the Demow Police, acting on special information, successfully intercepted a car loaded with ganja in the Demow Santipur area, along National Highway 37. This incident occurred on Saturday and involved a car traveling towards Duliajan.

The vehicle, with the registration number TR 01 AW 1762, was reportedly coming from Tripura, carrying a substantial quantity of ganja. The police discovered that the car had been modified to transport the illicit substance. A specially designed chamber, hidden beneath the car, was used to conceal 55 packets of ganja.

The two individuals in the car at the time of the seizure were identified as Sukhendra Deb Barman and Niresh Deb Barman. It is believed that they were responsible for transporting the ganja.

The value of the seized ganja is estimated to be around Rs 14 lakh, making this a significant bust in terms of the quantity and worth of the drugs. The police are conducting further investigations to determine the extent of this drug network and to prevent such illegal activities in the future. The arrest of Sukhendra and Niresh Deb Barman marks a crucial step in this ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.
