Assam Traders await issuance of firecracker licences, as Supreme Court bans the use of Firecrackers prior Diwali

I

In Guwahati, there is a big issue for shopkeepers who want to sell firecrackers for the Diwali festival. These traders had to apply for temporary licences to set up their shops. They did this by using the Sewa Setu portal, an online service provided by the state government. Each trader completed an online application and also paid a fee of Rs 500. This process was supposed to help them get permission to sell firecrackers legally.

After the traders submitted their applications, the local police stations took charge of verifying the information. They checked all the necessary details in each application. Once the verification was done, the applications were forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner of Police under the Guwahati Police Commissionerate. This was an important step in the process.

The traders, on their part, were ready with all the required documents. They gathered their identity proofs, tax receipts, trade licences, and also the receipts for the fee they paid. They were told that they needed these documents to collect their licences. However, there's a problem now. Despite completing all these steps, many traders have not received their licences yet. They are in a difficult situation because Diwah is approaching fast and they need these licences to sell firecrackers.

Many of the applicants have expressed their frustration and unhappiness about this delay. They are worried because time is running out. Without the licences, they cannot sell firecrackers, which is a big part of their business during the Diwali festival. This situation has left the traders in a state of uncertainty and concern, as they wait for a response from the authorities.
