Starting December 1, Malaysia will no longer require visas for tourists from China and India, as announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. This move aims to attract more tourists and boost Malaysia's economy. This new policy allows Chinese and Indian visitors to stay in Malaysia for 30 days without a visa, though they will still go through security checks.
Currently, Indians can get a visa on arrival in Malaysia if they come from Thailand, Indonesia, or Singapore and have valid visas for these countries and return tickets to India. Malaysia offers several visa types for Indian travelers, including eNTRI Visa, E-Visa, and Transit Pass.
This change is part of Malaysia's broader plan to improve visa facilities, especially for tourists and investors from India and China. Meanwhile, China has also removed visa requirements for travelers from six countries, including Malaysia, for up to 15 days.
Thailand and Sri Lanka have made similar moves. Thailand allows Indian and Taiwanese tourists to visit without a visa for 30 days, from November 10, 2023, to May 10, 2024. Sri Lanka offers visa-free entry to travelers from India and six other countries.
The Henley Passport Index 2023 states that Indian passport holders can travel to 57 countries without a visa, including new additions Sri Lanka and Thailand. Other countries offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to Indians include Bhutan, Hong Kong, Barbados, Fiji, and several more.
