Meg Lanning, one of Australia's top cricketers, has retired from international cricket at 31 years old. She has led the Australian team in 182 matches over 13 years. Lanning, who also plays for the Melbourne Stars in the WBBL, said it's the right time for her to retire from the international stage.
Lanning shared that it was a tough choice, but she's ready for new things after a successful career. She thanked her family, teammates, and cricket organizations for their support, and expressed gratitude to her fans.
Starting her cricket journey at 18, Lanning played in many T20Is, ODIs, and a few Test matches. As a captain from 2014, she won many games and led Australia to several World Cup victories and a Commonwealth Games gold medal.
Recently, Lanning took a break and missed some tours, and Australia will be looking for a new permanent captain. She holds records as a young century scorer and for the fastest century in Women's ODIs for Australia.
Lanning, who also played for Delhi Capitals in the Women's Premier League, will continue to play in leagues and domestic cricket. Cricket Australia's CEO praised her for her batting skills, leadership, and influence on the sport, calling her one of the finest cricketers. They plan to honor her career soon.
