ISRO Chairman to come to Guwahati in response to Pragjyotishpur University’s invitation

Responding to Pragjyotishpur University’s invitation to him, Dr. Sreedhara Panicker Somanath shall come to Guwahati. Hon’ble Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, Dr. Somanath is the chief scientist who led the team of scientists that made possible the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon’s south pole.

The internationally renowned scientist will attend a programme, to be organised by Pragjyotishpur University on 17 January 2024, in which he will both be felicitated and participate in an interaction with students.

“The administration of the newly established Pragjyotishpur University in Guwahati is organising a special programme to celebrate the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and, recently, that of the Aditya-L1 mission along with to facilitate his Interaction with the students,” informed Dr. Jogesh Kakati, Professor and Registrar at the University. He added that Dr. Somanath shall be felicitated on the day of the event.

Since that day coincides with Shilpi Divas, a lamp-lighting ceremony followed by garlanding of the image of the great artist Jyoti Prasad Agarwala shall formally open the felicitation-cum-interaction programme.

The programme will be held from 03:00 PM onwards at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium at Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati. Students from across disciplines, particularly final-year higher secondary and undergraduate students, are welcome to participate in the programme and avail the privilege of interacting with Dr. Somanath.

For participation, interested students are to register themselves by filling a Google form (open till 9 January 2024) that has been made available on the institutional website by the administration of Pragjyotishpur University.

Pragjyotishpur University, it is worth mentioning, was established by the Shankardev Education and Research Foundation. The University started offering undergraduate programmes of study in 2023. Beginning from the 2024–25 academic session, postgraduate and Ph.D. programmes as well shall be offered in various disciplines. The University has currently been functioning from its City Campus in Geetanagar, Guwahati, but shall shift base permanently to the Main Campus at Hanjongbari, Chandrapur, from the upcoming academic session.
