Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik today reviewed the progress of departmental schemes of the Union Government in the North Eastern states of India in Guwahati The meeting was attended by senior departmental officers from Assam and several other states of North East India, the Joint Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment Department and other senior officials of the Union Government The departmental officer presented a detailed report to the Union Minister of State on behalf of Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika and briefed the Union Minister of State on the work of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department of the state government The Minister also requested that the Union Minister of State simplify the National Scholarship Portal for availment of scholarships for SCs and other backward classes offered by the Union Government The Minister also requested to increase the existing fund of Rs. 20 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gramya Yojana in predominantly SC-settled areas Responding to Minister Hazarika's request for allocation of funds for construction of hostels in educational institutions with high number of SC and OBC students, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik urged the Union Minister of State to prepare a proposal and send it to the Union Government immediately
The meeting was attended by Minister Piyush Hazarika, who briefed the Union Minister of State on the public welfare schemes being undertaken by the Government of Assam under the Social Justice and Empowerment Department under its own initiatives like construction of Adarsh Anganwadi Centers, Mini Stadiums, etc
Senior officials of concerned departments of the Governments of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya also briefed the meeting on the progress of public welfare schemes of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department of the Union Government in their states
