Guwahati: After a busy campaign in Telangana, Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has started encouraging BJP, AGP, and Gana Shakti workers for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He wants them to work together to win and help Narendra Modi to become the Prime Minister again.
The Chief Minister visited Majuli for two days. He checked on two bridges being built there: the Majuli-Jorhat Bridge and the Selek-Dhonaguri Bridge. He also went to a rally with the BJP, AGP, and Gana Shakti. He asked everyone to work hard to win most of the Lok Sabha seats in Assam. He talked about how the Majuli area is now part of the Jorhat Parliamentary Constituency and the need for teamwork in the elections.
About the bridges, he said the Majuli-Jorhat bridge is 20% done, and they hope to finish 35% before the flood season. This bridge is expected to be ready by April 2026. The Selek-Dhonaguri bridge should be done by December 2025. They also need to build roads to connect to the bridges, which might cost around Rs 400 crore. He hopes to start this next year to finish them with the bridges.
The Majuli-Jorhat bridge project, which costs Rs 650 crore, started on November 29, 2021. In the evening, the Chief Minister enjoyed several Raax Kriras (traditional performances) in Majuli.
