More Guards in Assam's Karimganj District Following Old Temple Destruction

I

In the village of Barman Basti, which is watched by the Ratabari police in Assam's Karimganj district, security has been made stronger. This happened after some unknown people broke a temple that was 200 years old last Monday.

The trouble took place in Barman Basti, which is quite far from Silchar town—about 120 km away—on Monday night. That time, a group of unknown troublemakers set fire to a very old temple (a temple for Lord Shiva and Lord Narayan). When people heard about this, many came to the temple. They were very upset and wanted the people who did this to be punished strictly.

Jitendra Lal Roy, who leads the BJP party in Dullabcherra Mandal, said this act was very wrong. He asked the people in charge to catch those who did it quickly. He also said we should do things to stop more problems.

Mridul Yadav, who is the District Commissioner, and Partha Pratim Das, who is the head of the police, came to see what happened. After they looked around, soldiers from the paramilitary forces came to Barman Basti to make sure everyone stayed calm and safe.

The police found three big cans at the temple. It looks like these cans had fuel to burn the temple. The police are looking at this from all sides, and they are trying to catch everyone involved.

Another person said the police have taken two men because they might be linked to this trouble. But the police haven't said anything about this till now. When we talked to Bijoy Malakar, who makes laws for Ratabari for the BJP, he told EastMojo on Wednesday that the temple is in bad shape. He promised to work fast to fix it. He thinks people from one group burned the temple to take the land that belongs to the local people.

Subrata Bhattacharjee, who is the District President for the BJP, said the people who broke the temple should be caught quickly. He asked Partha Pratim Das, the head of the police, to help.

SP Partha Pratim Das said they are checking everything carefully. He told everyone to not listen to any wrong stories about what happened. He also said everything is okay in that area now.
