In Dehradun, a 40-year-old worker named Madan Singh had a lucky escape thanks to his smoking break. He is from Jharkhand and was working on a night shift from 8 pm at the Silkyara tunnel.
Madan Singh usually takes short breaks every few hours to smoke a bidi. Early on Sunday, during one of these breaks, he stepped outside the tunnel. He sat on a rock near the tunnel's entrance, smoking his bidi. Just as he was finishing, he saw soil and rocks start to fall from the tunnel's ceiling.
Realizing the danger, he quickly ran out of the tunnel. He was just in time, as a lot of debris fell and blocked the tunnel entrance. Forty other workers were still inside. Madan Singh was lucky to escape, but he is now very worried about his colleagues who are trapped. He hopes they will be safely rescued soon.
This incident shows how sometimes, an ordinary action like taking a break can lead to an unexpected escape from danger. Now, everyone is hoping for the safe rescue of the trapped workers.
