GUWAHATI: Farmers in our state, along with others in India, got money from the government on Wednesday. This was the 15th time the government gave money under a special farmer program called PM KISAN. Prime Minister Modi, who was in Jharkhand, sent the money to about 8 crore farmers in India, including 12.09 lakh farmers in Assam. Each farmer got Rs 2,000. The total money given was Rs 18,000 crore.
Assam's Agriculture Minister, Atul Bora, joined this event online from his office. He said that this time, more farmers in Assam got money than before. Last time, 8.75 lakh farmers got it, but now 12.09 lakh farmers got it. This means 39% more farmers got help this time. He praised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for helping add more farmers to this program. He asked his team to try and include more farmers who still haven't got this benefit.
PM KISAN started in February 2019. It helps farmers by giving them Rs 6,000 every year in three parts. This money is sent directly to their bank accounts linked with Aadhaar. This way, no middlemen can take a share, and it's very clear who gets the money. So far, the government has given over Rs 2.60 lakh to 11 crore farmers and more.
