In Doomdooma, a tragic incident occurred when a large group of wild elephants ventured out of a nearby forest in search of food and trampled a person to death. The victim, Amit Tanti from Nahorijan in Kakojan, Doomdooma, was staying in a makeshift house near his rice field to protect his crops from wild animals, a common practice among local farmers.
Despite their efforts to chase away the elephants, tragedy struck as the herd trampled the area. The local community has expressed frustration with the forest department, claiming that they failed to prevent such incidents despite repeated warnings from the people. They hold the forest department responsible for Amit Tanti's death.
The victim's family is demanding compensation from the government for their loss and urging authorities to take measures to prevent further conflicts between humans and wild animals.
In a previous attempt to address human-animal conflicts, the forest department had set up a trap to capture a wild leopard in the Kakojan Tea Estate in the Mariani region. This move aimed to ensure the safety of both residents and leopards in the area after the big cat had been causing fear among the local community and workers in the tea garden.
