Nagaon Bypoll: BJP's Debasish Sharma Votes in Mayong

E Assam

Early Tuesday morning, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and former IAS officer Debasish Sharma cast his vote at a polling station in historic Mayong during the ongoing Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency by-election.

Voters turned out early across several polling centers in Mayong, Morigaon, and Nagaon. The election carries significant political importance: for the first time, a prominent candidate hailing directly from the Mayong/Morigaon region is contesting under the ruling party ticket to represent the Nagaon Parliamentary seat, whereas historically all elected Members of Parliament from this seat have hailed from Nagaon district itself.

Early voting patterns indicate a slow start in key parts of Morigaon district - particularly across the main Morigaon assembly segment compared to Laharighat and Jagiroad - while polling across various segments within Nagaon district registered steady turnout from the opening hours.
