Water Resources Minister Piyush Hazarika visits flood affected areas in South Shalmara-Mankachar

Assam Water Resources Minister Piyush Hazarika today visited South Shalmara-Mankachar district on the Indo-Bangladesh border and took a firsthand look at the erosion of the Brahmaputra by speedboat from Kokradang to Hazirhat area of the district. The minister, accompanied by departmental officers, engineers and district commissioners, inspected the flood-hit area and directed the department to make urgent arrangements for erosion control works with bamboo and porcupine along a length of about 5 km. The area is 10 km long and the water resources department has been working to prevent erosion in about 4 km of the river. During today's inspection, Minister Hazarika directed to use porcupine and bamboo to prevent erosion.

Later, the Water Resources Minister also interacted with the locals at Hatchingimari Circuit House.
