Two key figures from the Assam Congress party have decided to leave. They're expected to join the BJP soon.
One of them, Suresh Bora, who was in charge of the Congress party in Nagaon district and also ran for a seat in the Barhampur area in the 2021 elections, has stepped down. In his goodbye note, Bora mentioned, “I've been proud to lead the Nagaon District for Congress and thankful for all the support. But now, I feel it's better for both me and the party if I leave.”
Suresh Bora had a close race in the 2021 elections but lost to BJP's Jitu Goswami in Barhampur by just 751 votes.
Meanwhile, another leader, Poritush Roy, who had a big role in the Youth Congress in Assam, also quit. In his letter to the head of the Congress party, Roy shared his unhappiness with how the party operates. He said, “I have to leave because the party seems to only care about people from influential backgrounds. It feels like ordinary folks like us, who aren't from privileged groups, are ignored. My time here made me see that the party often puts family connections before the country's needs, from local levels in Dispur all the way to the national scene in Delhi.”
