In alignment with the visionary perspective shared by the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the need for adapting agriculture to contemporary demands and challenges, BJP Assam Pradesh Kisan Morcha has embarked on an innovative initiative. The focus is on integrating the latest technologies and scientific approaches to enhance agricultural yield, while also advocating for a shift from chemical-centric practices to embrace the principles of natural farming.
Recognizing the pivotal role of Apiculture or Beekeeping in bolstering agriculture, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has underscored the importance of incorporating beekeeping alongside traditional farming practices. In line with this directive, BJP Assam Pradesh Kisan Morcha State General Secretary, Ranjit Bhattacharya, has entrusted the responsibility of implementing the Apiculture initiative to the Morcha's State Secretary, Epsita Barua.
As a testament to the commitment to this transformative vision, a pilot project was launched on December, 19, 2023. A total of 30 honey bee boxes were successfully installed at Mustard cultivation sites managed by Akansha Krishi Gout at Athiaboi, Changsari, under Jalukbari LAC. This strategic placement of honey bee boxes aims to capitalize on the numerous benefits associated with Apiculture.
Honey, renowned as a valuable nutritional food, is a direct outcome of Apiculture. Moreover, honey bee pollination not only leads to increased agricultural yields but also ensures superior produce quality. The efficient pollination process also acts as a natural defense mechanism against pests, promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural ecosystem.
Nang Lucky Gogoi, Co-convenor of the BJP Assam Pradesh Media Dept, anticipates a significant expansion of this initiative. The number of honey bee boxes is projected to rise to 300 or more in the near future, demonstrating a commitment to scaling up this impactful project.
Madhumita Das and Amrit Kr Das, both state executives of BJP Assam Pradesh Kisan Morcha, have played instrumental roles in supporting Epsita Barua in implementing and ensuring the success of this groundbreaking endeavor.
